What Should I Sell on eBay Part 2

“What should I sell on eBay?” is the single most posed question I receive from my newsletter readers and book buyers. Let me say right up front: “There is no way I can answer that question.” No one can answer that except you.

Unless you have very deep pockets I can tell you what you probably cannot sell on eBay: Plasma TVs, iPods, the latest model laptops, digital camera and DVD players, Xbox, Gucci shoes, the latest perfume and other hot consumer products. The wholesale distribution of these products are tightly controlled by the manufacturer.

For example, if you want to buy iPods wholesale to sell on eBay, the distributor requires that you have a $200,000 line of credit. Channel will only sell their perfumes to a select few stores. You can buy overstock or surplus famous designer items (Gucci, Prada, Hermes, etc.) through a few outlets, but the latest merchandise is only sold through their stores and a few select upscale retailers. One of the most overlooked areas of eBay is that it’s a great ground for you to find out what your eBay competitors are up to. The research tools that are provided for customers are also an ideal way for you to investigate which products sell and which don’t as well as the ideal selling price and what products are most popular. It’s something that not many sellers do, but if you take the chance to take a sneaky peek at your eBay competitors, you can be on good ground to doing a better job than them and that also means making much more money.

If you take your time to do some investigation, you can explore different styles of listings, different wordings and pictures and how they have impacted upon the outcome of the sale. You will be able to steal some great ideas that can even boost your sales amounts and make you better profits.

Many of your eBay competitors will have years of experience in the business. That doesn’t mean that you should let that deter you – just leverage against their experience and use it for yourself. One of the best things that you can do is type in the keywords related to the items that you are going to sell. Take some notes about the sellers, the prices and if there was anything in particular that caught your attention. (more…)

  • How to Think Like an eBay PowerSeller

Published: Oct 5th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

So what’s a PowerSeller? PowerSellers are the people on eBay who’ve made it, recognisable by the little ‘PowerSeller’ badge next to their name. You’ve probably seen these people around – and to succeed on eBay, you want to think the way they do.

How to People Get the Right to Call Themselves PowerSellers?

eBay gets to decide who can be a PowerSeller and who can’t, and they have strict requirements. To get in at the minimum PowerSeller level, you must have a feedback rating of at least 100 (minimum 98% positive) and sell at least $1,000 worth of items every month for three months in a row. There are different levels of PowerSeller membership as you sell items of greater value: $1,000 total is bronze, $3,000 is silver, $10,000 is gold, $25,000 is platinum and $125,000 is titanium. When and How to Withdraw Your eBay Bid (and Why You Might Not Want To)

Published: Oct 4th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

eBay are a little strict about letting you withdraw your bid. They call it a ‘bid retraction’, and have a stringent set of conditions that you must meet before you are allowed to do it. Here are eBay’s three acceptable reasons for withdrawing a bid.

You made a typographical error: This means that you accidentally typed the wrong amount into the bid box, bidding a far higher price than you meant to. This can be scary: imagine bidding $100 and accidentally adding an extra ‘0′! You are entirely allowed to withdraw your bid in this situation, and bid again if you want to.

The item’s description changed: If you bid on something and then the seller updates the description, you have the right to withdraw your bid. It wouldn’t be fair, after all, to force you to take something that you now realise you don’t want. (more…)

    Taming the eBay Search Engine

Published: Oct 1st, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

If you know what you’re doing, you can quickly find what you’re looking for on eBay – and the more you know about how buyers find you, the easier you’ll find it to be found. Here are a few golden searching rules.

Be specific: If you’re searching for the first edition of the original Harry Potter book, you’ll get further searching for ‘harry potter rowling philosopher’s stone first edition’ than you will searching for ‘harry potter’. You’ll get fewer results, but the ones you do get will be far more relevant.

Spell wrongly: It’s a sad fact that many of the sellers on eBay just can’t spell. Whatever you’re looking for, try thinking of a few common misspellings – you might find a few items here that have slipped through the cracks. (more…)

How to Choose the Right eBay Product Category

Some people think it’s easy to choose the right eBay category, and often it is. Sometimes, though, it might not be quite clear exactly what to go for.

    Why is it Even Important?

Plenty of people use the category system to find items, when they’re not looking for something specific. If your item is listed in the wrong category – or you’ve just given up and listed it in ‘Everything Else’ – then these people aren’t going to find your auction.

Also, listing items in the wrong categories is against eBay’s rules, and eBay say they will remove any auctions that are wrongly categorised. They don’t often actually do this, but it’s not worth the risk – especially since breaking any rules can cause them to penalise your account, including losing PowerSeller status if you have it. How to Promote a CPA Affiliate Offer – The One Method to Rake in Cash!

Published: Sep 8th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

An alternative to traditional affiliate marketing are cpa offers. These are great to make some quick cash, and one of the most common questions I get asked is how to promote a cpa affiliate offer.

Well I am not going to beat around the bush here, so try this method and you will be making more money from your cpa offers than you ever thought possible!

The method I am talking about involves how to promote a cpa affiliate offer on eBay. Many people seem to ignore eBay when it comes to affiliate marketing, and this is a gigantic mistake! Think about it; eBay has millions of people online each day, and they are actually searching to buy something! Why wouldn’t you use eBay?

To promote a cpa offer on eBay you must set up a classified ad on eBay. Since you are not selling a physical product, you are not allowed to sell under the regular auction format. In your eBay classified ad you will give information about your product or service, and include what is called a squeeze page. (more…)
